This volume represents the edited results of the Conference on Algebraic Number Theory held at the Harish-Chandra Research Institute, University of Allahabad. The theme of the workshops was Algebraic Number Theory with a special emphasis on Elliptic Curves. The theory of Elliptic Curves has been the source of new approaches to classical problems in Number Theory. It also has major applications in advanced Cyrptology which are dealt with in this volume.

The volume is in three parts, the first part contains articles in the field of Elliptic Curves, the second contains research on Modular Forms. Some of the basics as well as advanced topics are dealt with in detail in the third and final part of these proceedings.

Several of the leading world figures in this area present their work (Shorey, Brown, Tandon, Ramakrisnan et al) as well as some of the best Indian mathematicans in these research areas.
